New Mexico’s methane waste rule requires oil and gas operators to capture 98% of their natural gas by December 31, 2026. The rule also prohibits routine venting and flaring, except in emergencies or malfunctions. The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department currently offers a variety of tax credits that incentive New Mexican consumers to purchase clean cars, allowing them to save money and protect our air. Consumers can get up to $3,000 to buy a clean car in-state and up to $400 when installing an at-home vehicle charging station.
