New Motor Vehicle Emissions Standards

Starting in calendar year 2026, 43% of all new passenger cars and light-duty trucks shipped to New Mexico auto dealerships by national auto manufacturers must be zero emission vehicles. Similarly, beginning in calendar year 2026, 15% of all new heavy-duty trucks shipped to New Mexico by manufacturers must produce zero emissions. These percentages gradually increase over time and will ensure New Mexico has priority for the newest and cleanest vehicles for sale — as well as the benefits that come from less pollution.
